Harvard Experts Offer CSR Course

Harvard LogoHarvard Business School (HBS) Executive Education offers a comprehensive portfolio of learning opportunities, including more than 60 open-enrollment programs and custom executive development programs. Harvard Experts Offer CSR Course Designed for senior executives in mind, Corporate Social Responsibility: Strategies to Create Business and Social Value, is a program designed to help align corporate social responsibility (CSR) with business strategy, and successfully manage through the current environment.

According to the 2010 Deloitte Volunteer IMPACT Survey, more than eight in 10 companies (84 percent) believe that volunteerism can help nonprofits accomplish long-term social goals, and are increasingly offering skills-based volunteer opportunities to employees. However, not all CSR campaigns are executed properly. Executives new to this strategy tend to see a golden marketing opportunity and neglect the potential, even the responsibility, to insure the affiliated organizations benefit as well.

The course is led by the co-chairman of the school’s Social Enterprise Initiative, Professor V. Kasturi “Kash” Rangan. He also currently serves on the editorial board of Journal of Retailing and Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing.

By exploring current CSR models, as well as next-generation CSR issues, participants will discover new ways to:

Lecture

  • Present the business case for continuing CSR initiatives during challenging times
  • Assess risks and rewards before making capital investments or other business decisions
  • Understand how CSR directly impacts current and future regulatory practices
  • Align CSR strategies with organizational goals
  • Identify and explore critical emerging issues facing the field of CSR
  • Drive CSR throughout the organization
  • Measure the impact of CSR initiatives on the organization’s bottom line
  • Generate successful interaction with governments, non-governmental organizations, and key stakeholders

This particular course will be held November 7 to 10, 2010.  For more information regarding Professor Rangan, the course curriculum, or how to apply, visit www.exed.hbs.edu/programs/csr.

About Harvard Business School: Harvard Business School is the leading provider of advanced learning opportunities that strengthen the leadership capacity of individuals and their organizations.

About the 2010 Volunteer IMPACT Survey: Results are based on online interviews of 303 corporate managers and other executives at companies with 1000+ employees who personally manage their company’s employee volunteerism and are knowledgeable about the ways in which their company provides financial support to nonprofit organizations. Interviews were conducted by Opinion Researc Corp., January 27 – March 2, 2010. The sample size of 303 at a 95 percent confidence level would equate to + or – 5.8 percent margin of error for a random sample.
